As a Flight Leader, you’ll serve as a role model, provide guidance in and out of the classroom, and help first-year students feel at home at Georgia Southern.

Positions are available on both the Armstrong and Statesboro campuses.
What Flight Leaders Do
Flight Leaders are expected to:
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment for first-year students.
- Serve as a mentor and resource, helping students navigate academic and social life.
- Promote a positive and respectful community inside and outside the classroom.
- Guide students to campus resources that support their academic and personal goals.
- Support FYE 1220 instructors by actively engaging in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete Flight Leader training to prepare for the role.
- Attend all class meetings and Flight Leader Training Lab
- Meet regularly with assigned faculty instructor
- Support instruction of the course through communication, making referrals to campus resources, attendance tracking, grading, and mentorship of students
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources based on their needs.
- Support departmental programming initiatives
Eligibility Requirements
To apply, you must:
- Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours.
- Must have earned a minimum grade of B in FYE 1220 or equivalent.
- Must have and maintain a 3.0 gpa or higher.
- Must have a clear judicial record.
- Must complete required 16 hours of training.
- Be committed to supporting and mentoring first-year students.
